WE SERVICE THE FOLLOWING AREAS: INDIANA & ILLINOIS

CNA training was developed to prepare you to deliver the level of care your patients will need. The in-class, or theory, the component of our CNA training program will help you understand and learn how to provide proper patient care. This component includes lectures and hands-on, in-class practice.

After successfully completing your in-class work, you’ll begin your clinical work – which allows you to, under the guidance of a licensed nurse, work directly with patients in a healthcare facility.

CNA TRAINING CURRICULUM

Although your interests may be vast and varied, our Certified Nurse Assistant training program can help you develop skills that are applicable to a wide range of healthcare environments. This way, you can build a foundation of information and good habits before you specialize or choose to further your career with additional training. Currently, the Destination Unlimited CNA training program includes instruction on:

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED usage
  • Infection control
  • Taking vital signs
  • The range of motion exercises
  • Becoming a valuable and adaptable employee
  • Communication, teamwork and diversity skills for the workplace
  • The art of caregiving
  • Promoting safety
  • Special care instructions
  • Transitioning from student to employee

CNA Salary Per Hour

As an entry-level position, CNA jobs may pay employees an hourly wage. For aspiring nursing assistants who are wondering about average hourly rates, the BLS reports a median hourly wage for nursing assistants of $13.72 nationwide. According to the BLS, nursing assistants can expect to make between $10.24 and $19.02 per hour.

Type of Employer

Certified nursing assistants may work in a variety of job settings providing basic patient care such as feeding, dressing and bathing patients, helping with activities of daily life and taking vital signs. They may find jobs in government organizations such as the Department of Veteran Affairs and local departments of health, hospitals, nursing care facilities, home health organizations, and retirement and assisted living communities for the elderly. According to BLS data, nursing assistants working for government organizations make slightly more ($3,750) than average annually nationwide and than those who work for other types of healthcare organizations such as hospitals; state, local, and private and $5,270 more than median annual pay as an industry.

The median annual wages for nursing assistants in the top industries in which they worked were:

  • Government organizations: $33,800
  • Hospitals: $30,050
  • Nursing care facilities: $27,840
  • Home healthcare services: $27,290
  • Continuing care retirement communities and assisted living facilities for the elderly: $27,200

Geographic Location

In general, jobs in larger cities and more populated areas tend to offer higher salaries than smaller towns and rural areas to compensate for higher costs of living. However, in some cases, if there is a high demand for nurses in a more remote area, salaries will increase to attract new employees. Currently, the states with the highest-paid nursing assistants are Alaska ($39,830 annual mean salary) and New York ($37,010 annual mean salary).

Prior Experience

While many CNA positions do not require prior professional experience beyond the required training hours set by the state nursing board, a nursing assistant may make a higher starting salary if he or she has some previous healthcare experience.
